Clothing

Clothing is obtained by using various natural resources; in particular cotton, wool, and silk.

Cotton is grown in the southern states, and Texas is the largest producer of cotton in the US.  In the warm summer months cotton is the best material for clothing. There are many types of spinning wheels and a wealth of information online as well as various classes in many locals. Texas A&M University is located in College Station and is one of the top agricultural universities in the country.

Texas is internationally famous for its wool and mohair.  Sheep can be raised and kept successfully, thus producing wool. Mohair, from goats, can also be produced. Once again Texas A&M University has many programs, owns a flock, and has extension courses. Wool is a good material for colder winter months.

The Master Plan allocates separate pasture land for animals such as cows, sheep, goats and other animals.  Our community will also have land used privately for some amount of profit farming for those interested. However, everything grown on the 1-acre home sites is meant for personal use, or for consumption or barter within the community. We don't want public business conducted in the private residential areas.

There are many cottage industries that are needed. We will develop them primarily after the community has started organic farming and is becoming established on the land. This subject will be covered more extensively in Stage II.
